  • From Maastricht we’re starting out with a southbound loop around Liège. We’ve had our first few hills and descents when we hit the Maas valley, which we follow upstream. After passing Namur and Dinant we leave Belgium and follow the valley through Northern France, passing Charleville-Mézières, Sedan, Verdun and Saint Mihiel. In Saint Mihiel we finally leave the Maas valley and cross over to Nancy, through an area with rolling hills, not unsimilar to PBP. From Nancy we follow the Marne-Rhine canal untilL Gondrexange. After Gondrexange we follow the Saar canal and even the Saar river for a short while until we enter Germany in Saarbrücken.

Over a big ridge we cross to the Moselvalley, following it from Mehring to Koblenz. The Mosel Valley is very scenic and well developed. After Koblenz we leave the Rhine Valley via nasty climb to the last control in Niederdrees, near Rheinbach. There’s even a chance of a small kip at this control. The last stretch is a mere 100km to the finish in Maastricht.

Good lights and a reflection jacket (legal requirement in France is necessary. Please note that the Randonneurs Netherlands rules require you to have non flashing lights.

Between Nancy and Gondrexange there are very little resupply options, so stock up in Nancy and have enough space in your bags.
