The VAM hill, situated 100 km from Dronten, is the destination of this brevet. The waste hill, erected in 1929, currently reaches a height of 63 meters above sea level. The hill is covered with clean soil and grass; it's the highest (artificial) point in the province of Drenthe. Today, this twenty million cubic meters of household waste is an icon of cycling, and it's possible to earn a KOM or QOM here. That's all it is.
Along the way, we pass the Waterloopbos, Blokzijl, Muggenbeet in the Weerribben-Wieden National Park (CP01), the Dwingelderveld National Park, the Gees Forestry, and Reevediep. There are three checkpoints along the way:
CP01 in Muggenbeet (km 50) - Cafe Geertien
CP02 in Col du VAM (km 97) - photo - NOTE: no toilets, no cafe*
CP03 in Rouveen (km 159) - bakery + bike repair shop or snackbar*Need a break halfway? There are:
Inn Eijg&Wijs at km 94 or
Cafeteria Troost at km 124.
The finish checkpoint is open from 3:00 PM to 10:30 PM. -
